The festival of vibrant colors, Gujiyas and Malpuha, is just around the corner, and we’re all excited to welcome it with happiness and joy. During this festival, people play with vibrant colors, sing, dance, and eat together, making it a fun-filled experience.

People of all ages enjoy playing Holi, but being careful and safe during this time is also essential. Here are seven tips from experts at Clove Dental to help you have a safe and enjoyable Holi!

1. PROTECT YOUR EYES AND MOUTH!!

It is essential to shield your face during this festival as color can go inside the eyes and mouth, which is harmful and can cause staining of teeth. Keep your eyes and mouth tightly closed when someone colors your face to avoid staining and infection.

2. DO NOT OVEREAT TOO MANY SWEETS!

Although it is the time for sweets and celebrations, it is important to keep in mind that moderation is vital. Do not overeat sweets and drink processed juices, as they can cause cavities and damage to teeth. It is important to note that eating sweets in one go is better than eating at different intervals. This is because the bacteria feed on the sweets and can cause more harm than good. Also, always drink juices with a straw to prevent direct contact of the juice with your teeth. You can drink fresh juice and homemade sweets with less sugar instead of tetra packs and mithais from outside.

3.USE A MOUTHGUARD!!

If you wear braces, it is very important to wear a mouthguard while playing Holi. This is to avoid any unwanted stains and color getting stuck between your braces. Wearing a mouthguard will actually help you protect your teeth from any unwanted injury!

4. THIS HOLI, GO HERBAL.

For a safe Holi for you and your family, you should play using organic and herbal colors instead of the toxic ones that contain chemicals. These chemicals can damage your skin, irritate your eyes, and stain your teeth. You can make natural colors using sandalwood, henna, beetroot, turmeric, and other colorful flowers. A Holi full of flowers doesn’t sound like a bad idea either, right?

5. DO NOT INTOXICATE YOURSELF!

Overconsumption of alcohol during a festival can be harmful to your oral health. Too much alcohol disturbs the oral cavity’s pH, allowing oral microbes to grow and causing gum diseases and cavities. Alcohol also leads to dryness of the mouth, aka Xerostomia.

6. OIL AND MOISTURIZE YOUR SKIN!

Remember to oil and moisturize your skin before stepping out to play Holi! Apply SPF sunscreen on your face and body. The oil forms a layer above your skin so that the colors do not penetrate inside. It will be easier for you to remove the colors if you pre-apply them to your skin.

7.STAY HYDRATED, EAT HEALTHY, AND DO NOT FORGET TO BRUSH AND FLOSS LIKE A BOSS.

During the festivities, we often tend to give a backseat to hydration and our oral health. It is important to keep yourself hydrated by dribbling lots of water and fresh juices. Do not forget to brush twice a day and floss to keep your oral health at the top.

Follow the above tips and enjoy a safe and happy Holi!
